For Students

If you want to learn post conviction investigation then you qualify as a student.

Lourdes University Wrongful Conviction Presentation - 2023NWOIC is taking a slightly different approach to Innocence work. The focus is on training students to be ‘public’ investigators. After all, much of the work involves public records.

At present, 18 interns from the University of Toledo & Lourdes University have enrolled in the live classes. Their majors are: criminal justice, law, ‘law & social thought,’ psychology, forensics, political science and medicine – to name a few. There is no required area of study in order to participate.

The Pilot Project

This group of interns is the Pilot Project Group. They are attending live classes and following a curriculum based on a 5 part investigation manual. Once up to speed these students get assigned a case. Prior to graduation they will create an investigation summary that will be passed on to the next batch of interns.

The interns are also participating in such tasks as sorting & scanning police reports, transcribing witness tapes, reviewing security video, pouring through boxes of records, report writing, etc.

At present, this program is  limited to students enrolled  at area universities.  If interested in an internship, contact any department heads at the Team page.

Online classes will be available at a later date.

Once the classes have been taped and uploaded, the post conviction training will be available online, allowing for a larger student base.

And even though the training uses Lucas County cases as examples in the lesson plans, the curriculum should be adaptable to most other counties.
