Renee Heberle, Ph.D.

Co-Director Law & Social Thought

University of Toledo

Dr. Renée Heberle came to the University of Toledo in Fall of 1997 with a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and BA in Theater from Brandeis University.

Her research and teaching interests turned to prisons and the politics of incarceration in 2010. She coordinates the Inside/Out Prison Exchange Project and activities related to prison education at the Toledo Correctional Institution in Toledo.

The University of Toledo’s bachelor’s degree program in Law and Social Thought (LST) is the only program of its kind at a state university in Ohio.  The program is rooted in the liberal arts and based on the view that the study of law and justice cannot be done in a vacuum. Students need to appreciate the connections between law and morality, politics, language, history and power.

U Toledo’s LST students are curious about the world and want to make a difference.  They are all candidates for enrollment in the NWOIC Intern program.
